Language

  • Japanese (日本語 Nihongo ) is a language spoken by over 120 million people in Japan and in Japanese immigrant communities. It is a member of the Japonic (or Japanese-Ryukyuan) language family.

History

A common ancestor of Japanese and Ryukyuan languages or dialects is thought to have been brought to Japan by settlers coming from either the mainland or nearby Pacific islands. Old Japanese is the first attested written form of Japanese, modern Japanese is considered to begin with the Edo period in 1600. Since old to middle, the de facto Standard Japanese had been Kansai dialect, especially Kyoto.

Alphabet

The Japanese language is written with a combination of three scripts: Chinese characters called kanji (漢字), and two syllabic (or moraic) scripts made of modified Chinese characters, hiragana (ひらがな or 平仮名) and katakana (カタカナ or 片仮名).

In-Fact:

The Latin script, rōmaji (ローマ字), is also often used in modern Japanese and although Japanese is written using Chinese characters, and has historically imported many words of Chinese origin, the two languages are not actually related.

Culture

Japanese culture has evolved greatly from its origins. Contemporary culture combines influences from Asia, Europe and North America. Traditional Japanese arts include crafts such as ceramics, textiles, lacquerware, swords and dolls; performances of bunraku, kabuki, noh, dance, and rakugo; and other practices.

Scope

Japanese language is becoming one of the popular languages in India; this is because the direct investments of Japanese companies have seen a tremendous growth. So they need individuals with sound knowledge of Japanese. Also, since India lacks Japanese translators a person knowing it can be absorbed quickly with lucrative offers.
